Paint Protection Film
LUNOX manufactures aliphatic-TPU paint protection film in Korea for automotive OEM programs, tint-shop distribution networks in 20+ countries, and white-label brands shipping under their own labels. This page covers our TPU chemistry, the PPF product lines, the Windshield Protection Film (WPF) variant, and how OEM and wholesale terms work.
Why aliphatic TPU matters
The single failure mode that ruins cheap paint protection film is yellowing. Aromatic-TPU films — the discount tier sold on Alibaba spot-market — start yellowing within 18–24 months of UV exposure. Once they yellow, the panel underneath looks worse than untreated paint would have.
LUNOX PPF is aliphatic-TPU throughout. Aliphatic TPU costs 2–3× more at raw-material stage but doesn't yellow under UV. Combined with an embedded UV blocker in the top coat, LUNOX PPF holds yellowness index (YI) below 2 through the 7-year warranty term — verified per ASTM D 1925 on accelerated QUV weathering tests.
How LUNOX manufactures PPF
PPF is a five-layer construction: release liner, PSA adhesive, aliphatic-TPU carrier (7.5 mil / 190 μm), top-coat, and outer liner. Each layer's spec drives a specific performance:
- Release liner: siliconized PET, engineered to peel cleanly at any application temperature from 5 to 40 °C.
- PSA adhesive: acrylic pressure-sensitive with peel adhesion >1,500 gf/in at 30 minutes and >2,000 gf/in at 72 hours. Removes clean without adhesive transfer.
- TPU carrier: 190 μm aliphatic TPU. This is the impact-absorbing body of the film.
- Top coat: self-healing hydrophobic clear-coat with >100° water contact angle. Sheds water; heals scratches under heat.
- Outer liner: protects the top-coat during shipping and pre-install handling.
Production runs on the same ISO Class-7 cleanroom lines that produce LUNOX architectural sputter film, giving PPF the same particulate-contamination spec that the flagship architectural product lines require.

PPF Satin — matte finish, same core chemistry
Aliphatic TPU with a matte (<35 GU) top-coat. Same self-healing behavior on the underlying TPU; the matte finish is engineered so scratches through the matte layer don't leave a gloss "spot".
PPF Black Gloss — colored PPF for accent applications
Black TPU with a high-gloss (>90 GU) top-coat. Self-healing under heat gun in under 10 minutes. Used on trim, hoods, and full black-out PPF conversions.
Windshield Protection Film (WPF) — optical-clarity variant
The specialty variant. Aliphatic-TPU film formulated for glass, not paint. Applied to windshields, side glass, and sunroofs to absorb stone-chip impact and protect the underlying glass. Fits curved glass without thermoforming; removes with no residue.

Where LUNOX PPF wins vs XPEL and 3M
LUNOX matches the mechanical spec of XPEL Ultimate Plus and 3M Scotchgard Pro at every measured axis — self-healing trigger conditions, elongation, tensile strength, warranty. The difference is upstream:
- Private-label from 500 rolls. XPEL and 3M license their brand to installer networks; you can't buy their film in a plain box. LUNOX ships PPF in your box, with your spec sheet, under your warranty — from 500 rolls up.
- Direct-from-manufacturer pricing. No 40–60% dealer-network markup between the factory and your inventory.
- 4–6 week stock lead time. XPEL and 3M route through distributor tiers; LUNOX ships direct from Busan.
- Warranty in your brand name. Your PPF program, your warranty terms, your customer relationship. LUNOX backs it behind the scenes.
OEM and wholesale terms
- MOQ: 500 rolls for a first order; 2,000 rolls for distributor pricing tier; 2,000 rolls per SKU for custom specs.
- Lead time: 4–6 weeks on stock PPF Clear / Satin / Black Gloss. WPF stock lead time 4 weeks. Custom top-coat or colored PPF: +6–8 weeks color development.
- Shipping: FOB Busan or DDP to 20+ countries. Container standard; LCL on request.
- Roll sizes: Standard 152 cm × 15 m (PPF) or 152 cm × 30 m (WPF). Custom widths from 90 cm to 183 cm on OEM runs.

What buyers typically ask next
What kind of TPU does LUNOX use for PPF?
Aliphatic thermoplastic polyurethane. Aliphatic TPU is the top tier for PPF because it doesn't yellow under UV exposure — the failure mode that ruins cheaper aromatic-TPU films after 18–24 months. LUNOX PPF Clear and PPF Satin both use aliphatic TPU with an embedded UV blocker that pushes yellowing (YI) below 2 through the 7-year warranty term.
Is the PPF self-healing?
Yes. LUNOX PPF Clear and PPF Satin both self-heal with heat or warm water. Swirl marks and light scratches on the top coat re-flow at surface temperatures around 40–50 °C. On dark paint colors, this can be triggered with a hair dryer, warm-water rinse, or direct sunlight on a hot day. PPF Black Gloss self-heals under a heat gun in under 10 minutes.
What's the difference between PPF and Windshield Protection Film (WPF)?
PPF is applied to painted body panels. WPF is a specialized clear film for glass windshields, formulated for optical clarity (>90% VLT, <1% haze) and stone-chip impact absorption. WPF conforms to curved glass without thermoforming and removes without residue. Both are aliphatic-TPU based, but the substrate thickness, adhesive chemistry, and optical spec are tuned differently for paint vs glass.
What is the MOQ for PPF OEM orders?
500 rolls for a first order. Distributor pricing tier begins at 2,000 rolls. Custom-spec runs (custom width, custom top-coat, private-label backing) require 2,000 rolls per SKU minimum. Standard roll: 152 cm × 15 m for PPF, 152 cm × 30 m for WPF.
Which ASTM standards does LUNOX PPF test to?
PPF and WPF specs are verified against ASTM D 3652 (thickness), D 1003 (VLT/haze/UV), D 1925 (yellowness index), D 882 (elongation/tensile/modulus), D 3330 (peel adhesion), and D 5946 (water contact angle). Every SKU's spec sheet lists the test method next to the value. Buyers can request the third-party lab reports for verification before spec commitment.
How does LUNOX PPF compare to XPEL Ultimate Plus or 3M Scotchgard Pro?
LUNOX matches or exceeds the mechanical spec of both — >300% elongation, >15 MPa tensile strength, self-healing on the same trigger conditions. Where LUNOX wins is manufacturing terms: private-label from 500 rolls, warranty issued in your brand name, 4–6 week lead time on stock, direct-from-factory pricing without XPEL/3M's dealer-network markup.
What's the warranty term?
7 years on PPF Clear (yellowing, cracking, delamination, edge lift). 5 years on PPF Satin and PPF Black Gloss. 1 year on Windshield Protection Film (WPF). Warranty is transferrable and issued in the OEM partner's name for private-label programs.
Can LUNOX supply PPF in colored options?
Yes. PPF Black Gloss is a stock item (>90 GU gloss, self-healing under heat). Custom colored PPF runs — matte metallic, brushed titanium, colored satin — require 2,000 rolls per shade and a 6–8 week color-development phase.
