Window Film MOQ, Lead Time, and OEM Pricing Explained

First-time OEM buyers ask the same three questions: what's the minimum order, how long does it take, and what's the price tier structure. Here's the practical answer from a 30-year manufacturer's perspective.

Why MOQ is 500 rolls per SKU

The 500-roll number isn't arbitrary — it's the smallest run where the magnetron sputter line's setup time and PET substrate batching make economic sense. Below 500 rolls, the per-roll cost climbs sharply because line changeover (purging old material, calibrating, QC verification) dominates.

Some OEM partners will flex MOQ down to 300 rolls for a first order. Pricing on a 300-roll first PO typically runs 15–25% higher than the steady-state 500-roll tier. If you're testing a market, this can be worth it.

Lead time — actual numbers

Standard timeline from PO confirmation to ex-factory:

  • Standard packaging, repeat order: 4 weeks
  • Standard packaging, first order: 5 weeks (adds factory acceptance test)
  • Custom packaging, first order: 7–8 weeks (adds packaging tooling)
  • Full custom (formulation + branding): 10–14 weeks
  • Expedited (existing dealer account, in-stock SKU): 2–3 weeks

Add shipping: Korea → Asia 2 weeks, Korea → Europe 4 weeks, Korea → Americas 5 weeks (sea freight), 5 days (air, for prototype quantities).

Pricing tier structure

Industry-typical OEM tiering for nano-ceramic film, indicative ranges in USD per 100-foot roll, ex-factory:

Annual volumeTierTypical $ per rollNotes
500 rolls (one-time)Entry$120–180First-PO trial
2,000 rolls/yrTier 2$95–140Stable dealer program
5,000 rolls/yrTier 3$80–115Regional brand, custom packaging
10,000+ rolls/yrTier 4 (OEM)$65–95National brand or chain
50,000+ rolls/yrStrategic OEMnegotiatedCustom formulation, exclusivity

Ranges vary by film family — security films at 12-mil run 2–3× the per-roll price; carbon and economy lines run 40–50% of nano-ceramic price.

What's typically included vs extra

Included in tier pricing

  • Standard packaging (kraft tube + tape label).
  • Roll dimensions: 152 cm × 30 m.
  • Technical data sheet, certificate of analysis.
  • Standard warranty (under your brand from Tier 2+).

Extra cost line items

  • Custom box / packaging tooling: $2,000–5,000 one-time + per-roll uplift.
  • Custom core printing: small per-roll uplift.
  • Custom width (90 cm or 183 cm instead of standard 152 cm): 5–10% per-roll uplift, available from 5,000-roll orders.
  • Expedited production: 15–25% surcharge.
  • Air freight: $$$ — use only for samples or critical shortages.

How to plan your first order

  1. Pick 3–5 SKUs. Not 15. You'll learn from selling 3 SKUs faster than from sitting on 15.
  2. 500 rolls each = 1,500–2,500 rolls first PO. Enough to test channel demand without overcapitalizing.
  3. Standard packaging for first PO. Get to market, validate demand, then invest in custom packaging on PO #2.
  4. Plan inventory turn at 60–90 days. Healthy. If you turn faster, scale up. If slower, you picked the wrong SKUs.
