What nano-carbon film actually is
Nano-carbon window film uses stable carbon particulate suspended in optical PET substrate. The carbon layer selectively absorbs infrared radiation while producing the characteristic matte, color-neutral tint look — the visual signature that mid-market buyers recognize as "quality tint" without paying ceramic prices.
The critical property carbon delivers over dyed films: it doesn't turn purple. Cheap dyed film fails through UV decomposition of its blue pigment component within 12–24 months, shifting visibly from black-neutral to violet-purple. Carbon pigment is chemically stable through the 10-year warranty term.
How LUNOX manufactures nano-carbon film
Nano Carbon Max is a five-layer construction; Nano Carbon Plus is a four-layer economy of the same chemistry. Key production variables:
- Carbon particle dispersion. Uneven particle distribution creates haze and reduces VLT. LUNOX's dispersion process holds particulate distribution across the roll within a <5% variance — verified on 100% inline optical QC before every roll ships.
- Adhesive chemistry. Carbon film runs slightly warmer than ceramic during installation (higher heat absorption). The PSA adhesive is formulated for a 5–45 °C application window without bubbling or edge lift.
- UV blocker layer. Independent of the carbon layer, an embedded UV blocker holds UV rejection at 99% across all VLT tiers. This is what protects the carbon layer itself from long-term UV degradation.

Carbon vs ceramic vs sputter — the price/performance decision
Three questions decide the chemistry:
- What's the price ceiling? Carbon typically prices 25–35% below ceramic and 40–50% below sputter at equivalent VLT and roll volume. Mid-market dealers stocking multiple tiers usually put carbon as their volume line.
- Do you need max IR rejection? If yes (luxury car OEM, hospital, premium residential) → ceramic or sputter. If mainstream heat rejection is enough → carbon.
- Signal-sensitive install? Both carbon and ceramic are metallic-free. Sputter is not. If the vehicle has embedded antennas or the building is near cellular infrastructure, carbon is a safer default than sputter.
